History of Families for Orphans

The Families for Orphans Project was founded by a group of families who have been involved in placing orphans and vulnerable children in stable and loving families. Some have adopted children from various countries around the world or are in the process of doing so. Others have focused primarily on helping children to be placed in loving families. All of us have experienced firsthand the dire situation of many of the world's 150,000,0000 orphans, and we have also witnessed the permanent benefits to children who are placed in stable families.

Realizing the near impossibility of placing millions of children into families through inter-country adoptions, we determined that the best way to help the largest number of orphans would be to help countries develop mechanisms to:

  • Reunify children with family members wherever possible.
  • Place children in substitute families in their own countries and provide support to those families where needed.
  • Facilitate policies and programs for those children for whom the best option is inter-country adoption.

We also recognize that there are many orphans in need of lifesaving emergency interventions, so we have also established programs to help with the serious and immediate needs of orphans and vulnerable children. We have helped blind orphans to see, the lame to walk and disfigured children to receive back their dignity through reconstructive surgery!

We invite you to join us in helping the orphans of the world to find permanent families. There are many ways you can help. Click here to receive the "Orphan Watch" newsletter.
